The Viewmaster

While today’s youth gets its kicks from video games that get ever more sophisticated previous generations had the the View-Master. It was a primitive cross between a portable VCR and the virtual universe, which nowadays we take for granted.

The View-Master was very easy to use and brilliantly effective in its results. It worked via component parts and a 14-cell disc reel which comprised two still transparencies of each of seven individual images, all contained inside a goggle-eyed viewer made often from Bakelite. It had a spring-loaded lever mechanism for turning the reel and thus the View-Master worked its magic.

Vintage Fashion

Vintage fashion is wonderful, you can get a great outfit and be sure that nobody else will be wearing the same. Whereas a ‘one off’ designer piece would cost a fortune you can pick up vintage clothes at very reasonable prices. Even the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller have been seen in charity shops from time to time.

When we apply the ‘vintage’ tag to clothing, shoes and accessories it means that it was made from 1920 onwards. Just as with modern fashion there was a difference between couture and mass produced clothing. The majority of vintage clothing you are likely to pick up in the charity shops would be mass produced and can be bought relatively cheaply.

Antique Bathtubs

The bathroom with its bathtub used to be strictly utilitarian but during the last few years the bathroom has become a major feature of the home and a definite style statement. The bathroom has become an important room whether it is a candlelit retreat where you pamper yourself in a fragrant bubble bath and scented oils while playing soft music and enjoying a glass of champagne.
